Skincare has become a vital part in our beauty regime to enhance our facial appearance and ensure a longer lasting healthier skin. When it comes to caring for your skin, a nighttime skincare routine is extremely important, during the night your skin absorbs nutrients and components within facial products to its maximum capacity – therefore, ensuring even greater results in the long run. With the number of skincare products available on the market, it can be daunting and confusing to pick the right products, not to mention the application process.

Here are our expert tips to help you achieve a gorgeous face.

What Products Do I Need?

In any nighttime skincare routine there should be at least 6 products applied in the right sequence, they are:

  1. Makeup remover
  2. Cleanser
  3. Toner
  4. Serum or other personalized skin treatment
  5. Eye cream
  6. Moisturizer

Every one of these products are produced in different strengths and types, it’s important that you read the label to ensure whether it fits your skin – oily, dry, problematic, acne, or normal.

So, what does all these products actually do for your skin? How should they be applied? And why are they necessary? Let’s take a closer look!

1. Makeup Remover

One of the worst things you can do to your skin is to sleep with your makeup still intact, especially if you are someone who applies full-face makeup on a daily basis. Start off your night-time routine with a gentle makeup remover, before using a cleanser, to remove makeup products that are stubborn or waterproof – choose between a water-based or oil based makeup remover for ultimate results.

2. Cleanser

A gentle cleanser is recommended by professionals because it won’t remove all your skin’s natural oils, the wrong cleanser can disrupt microbiomes and cause irritation – it shouldn’t contain any alcohol. Invest in a good quality hydrating cleanser that is rich in antioxidants and created for most skin types; if you have a problematic skin type, then you should choose a cleanser for your skin’s needs.

3. Toner

Toner helps to restore pH balance levels and moisture levels by calibrating the skin, the perfect addition for anyone who suffers from an oily complexion. Many toners include healthy nutrients like aloe vera, vitamin E, hazel, green tea, and ginseng, as long as it’s alcohol-free, you can apply it gently by hand or with a soft cotton swab.

4. Serum or other personalized skin treatment

After the first three steps, you can introduce a customized product to your skincare routine, usually in the form of spot treatment by means of a brightening and hydrating serum or a prescribed product. Serums are usually rich in different types of acids to help hydrate and firm the skin, if you don’t have a problematic skin, then you can skip this step and jump to eye cream.

5. Eye cream

Eye cream is not necessary, but acts as a preventative measure against crows’ feet and wrinkles around the eye area – if you have dry under eye skin, then this is a step you have to include. Keep signs of aging intact by applying an eye cream that is nourishing and lightweight – apply it with your fingers or a specialized under eye roller.

6. Moisturizer

Rejuvenate your skin by applying a night-time moisturizer to your entire face, we recommend a moisturizer that is hypoallergenic and rich in strong humectants and hyaluronic acid – non-comedogenic! Nighttime moisturizers are typically a bit richer and more oily than daytime moisturizers, this is because it is formulated to be absorbed into the skin during the night.

When you combine our recommended nighttime skincare routine with healthy eating habits and exercise, you’ll be glowing in no time!

Stay smooth.
